Smartphones. Everyone has one, and most people are on the lookout for a new one at some point. There is no better time to do this than on Black Friday, where phones can receive major discounts on contract and SIM-free.

Smartphones are costing more and more, with the iPhone X coming in at a cool £999 for the cheapest model. This means it’s becoming even more important for people to find the best possible contract prices to spread the cost of the handset and price plan over 24 months.

But not all deals are good deals. Sometimes retailers will take advantage of the hysteria of Black Friday to push discounts that aren’t any better than the rest of the year round. That’s why we are collecting all the genuinely best deals we can find out there from now to Black Friday and beyond into Cyber Monday and Christmas to make sure you don’t get ripped off.

Black Friday phone deals

What to expect

Last year the Samsung Galaxy S7 was still the company’s flagship phone, and Black Friday saw the handset discounted considerably. Two-year contracts were sold for around £27 per month on a phone that often cost twice as much on similar plans.

Fingers crossed that this year we see the same for the even-better Galaxy S8. It is a remarkable phone alongside the larger S8 Plus. Retailers such as Carphone Warehouse will have deals on the handsets, so keep your eyes peeled.

While Apple itself doesn’t take part in Black Friday, it’s always a good time to check on contract prices with retailers like Carphone Warehouse, who last year sold the iPhone 6s and 7 at decent prices on contract.

Carphone also has significant savings on budget and midrange handsets from the likes of Nokia, Motorola, LG and more. Motorola’s excellent Moto G4 had money off last year, as did other mid-rangers, getting you the Android experience at a heavily discounted rate.

If you're looking to buy a phone outright, rather than on contract, Amazon will have some of the biggest bargains, and has started its Black Friday discounts a little early, with the first deals appearing from 17th November, a full week before Black Friday itself. The likes of Currys and Argos have also already kicked their sales off.

If you find that you’re missing out on Amazon’s Lightning deals, which run for just a few hours and offer limited stock, we'd recommend signing up for Amazon's 30 day free trial of Prime, which will get you access to deals 30 minutes before everyone else. Plus, you'll get free next-day delivery with the Prime trial, as well as access to Prime Instant Video and more.

Sign up for Prime now to get ready for the Black Friday action.
