2017 has arguably been the year of the Switch. Nintendo's new device - half portable, half home console - blew away sales expectations, and has been almost impossible to get hold of in the US for months since the launch, with Nintendo ramping up production to try and meet demand.

With Christmas on the way, you can be sure plenty of people will be hoping for a Switch under the tree, while others will be eyeing up Black Friday as the best chance to pick the console up for cheap - or just add a few new games or controllers to their collection.

Best Nintendo Switch deals right now

We still have a few days to wait for Black Friday 2017 to arrive on 24 November, though in fact deals have started appearing already. We've gathered up the best Switch deals that are live right now - and you can head to our deals site to find more of our curated picks.

What to expect

There's some bad news here: realistically, you probably shouldn't get your hopes up for massive savings on the Switch come Black Friday. Blame the Switch's popularity for that - people are still buying the console in droves at full price, so retailers really don't have much reason to slash prices in order to move stock - in fact it's been selling out all over the place as the first few bundles arrive.

Still, there are sure to be some discounts around if you know where to look. We'd be surprised if many stores cut prices on the Switch itself - at least not by more than £20 or so - but keep an eye out for good bundles, which offer the console alongside a game or extra accessories.

We're already beginning to see the first bundles appear, and you can get a Switch alongside a major title like Mario Kart 8 or The Legend of Zelda for just £310 or so, and Black Friday could see those drop below £300. You might also spot a Switch bundled with a cheaper game like Lego Worlds or Rayman Legends for the same price as the console itself, £280.

For people who already own Switches, there should be some discounts on games, but we'd expect the focus to mostly be on third-party titles like FIFA 18 or Street Fighter. Nintendo's own games traditionally stay at full price for a long time, so Black Friday probably won't see any big reductions for Mario Kart or Splatoon 2.

Accessories might be a better bet though - the pricing of extra controllers was one of the big gripes a lot of people had with the console at launch, so we wouldn't be surprised to see a few Black Friday offers trying to shift stock of controllers and other accessories. That means it'll also be a great time to pick up a carry case.

Also remember that the Switch uses microSD cards for expandable storage, and USB-C for power - there should be loads of great offers on memory cards and portable power banks for Black Friday, so we'd definitely recommend holding out until then if you're thinking of expanding your storage or grabbing a battery pack.

Of course, it won't end with Black Friday (or even really begin then). Deals will arrive throughout Black Friday week, and continue over the weekend to Cyber Monday on 27 November - and in some cases through to the end of the month, or even beyond into the Christmas season.

Where to find Black Friday Switch deals

Most major game retailers will be doing big discounts for Black Friday, along with just about anywhere else that sells games.

Amazon will have some of the biggest bargains, and has launched its Black Friday discounts a little early with the first deals live now. Currys and Argos have also already launched their sales - though there's little for the Switch so far.

If you find that you’re missing out on Amazon’s Lightning deals, which run for just a few hours and offer limited stock, we'd recommend signing up for Amazon's 30 day free trial of Prime, which will get you access to deals 30 minutes before everyone else. Plus, you'll get free next-day delivery with the Prime trial, as well as access to Prime Instant Video and more.
