If you’re in the market for a TV, Black Friday is the perfect time to buy. Retailers across the globe are slashing prices on TVs for their Black Friday sales, making that all-singing, all-dancing model you’ve had your eye on much easier to afford. Here, we bring you tips on how to find the best TV deals on Black Friday.

You’ll find deals on smart TVs, LED TVs, OLED TVs, curved TVs, 4K TVs and more, but with so many options it can be hard to figure out what you need. So in this article we also talk you through your options to help you know what to look for.

First things first, Black Friday is on 24 November. While that's the main event, retailers have begun discounting the products in what they are calling 'Black Friday sales' already, so the time, really, is now! Keep an eye out from today right through to Cyber Monday, which is on 27 November. The deals aren't waiting.

Amazon has kicked off Black Friday deals already, and they will run all the way up to midnight on 27 November. There will be new Deals of the Day each day, and thousands of Lightning Deals too.

We'd recommend preparing to sign up to the 30 day free trial of Amazon Prime now. By doing so, you'll not only get free next day delivery, you'll also get access to Lightning Deals 30 minutes before non-Prime members, which could make all the difference when it comes to bagging a bargain.

You can sign up for the free trial here.

Even if you do want to wait until Black Friday itself, it's a really good idea to research models you like, average prices outside of Black Friday and decide how much you’re willing to spend, to stop you from making a rushed decision on the day (Black Friday deals will sell out quickly).

Black Friday TV deals: What to look for

We’d recommend going for 4K if you can. They’re sometimes called UHD or Ultra HD, but essentially they all mean 4K (3840x2160 pixels, which is four times that of Full HD) and will be capable of displaying 4K content that is set to be the future standard for TV shows, movies and games.

We’d also suggest looking out for HDMI version 2 input with HDCP 2.2 support, which means it’ll be able to handle incoming 4K content sources such as Ultra HD Blu-ray players and media streamers like the Nvidia Shield. HDCP 2.2 is a new level of copy protection being used by all external 4K sources, so the more inputs that support it the better.

4K is best appreciated on a screen size of 55in or more, but there are smaller panels appearing and even a 4K TV at 40 inches can offer excellent performance.

You might also see the acronym ‘HDR’ when you’re looking for a new TV. It stands for High Dynamic Range and offers higher peak whites and better colour depth. It’s not essential, but is a nice additional feature if the price is right. There isn’t much HDR content around yet, but like 4K we expect it to become more common over time.
